Murray started his musical career with the hawaiian lapsteel at 14yrs of age and he still has his first guitar in his posession to this day.

Now that so many years have passed, it is hard to know where to start with his biography. His bands in New Zealand were always very popular and he backed artists, such as Marie Dallas, Patsy Riggir, John Hore, Lou and Simon, Eddie Lowe, Suzanne Prentice and many, many more.

In 1965 Murray's band was asked to play for the New Zealand Ballroom Competition and you guessed it, he played the Steel Guitar. It was such an uncommon instrument back in those days particularly once Murray graduated to the pedal steel guitar much later in the 1970s.

In 1970 Murray and his wife Ruth began the Tauranga Country Music Club, which really thrived and is still going today.

Murray was a very popular music teacher in his home town and he was teaching over 70 pupils during the 1970s. His musical reputation followed him across the Tasman Sea, so when he arrived in Brisbane and he soon became involved with music again..

Murray moved over to Australia in 1981 and began playing music in Brisbane and formed a band called The Country Knights, and this band backed the likes of Pam Shelton, Billy and Bluey Masters, and John Mc Sweeney to name but a few. He has done session work for Dave Reynolds and he also did radio shows in New Zealand. He was asked by the late Tex Morten to back him when he was making an E.P record in Auckland, New Zealand, in about 1977. He didn't hear the outcome until listening to the radio here in Australia in the 1990s when a local radio station played the song.

Murray has played at the Brisbane Steel Guitar Club Festivals at the 10th, 14th and 15th, 17 19th Festtival

In 2010 Murray played for a Polynesian group at the "Splendour in the Grass" festival at Woodford.

Murray has recently changed his musical equipment to an Anapeg S10 pedal steel guitar and an Evans 200watt amplifier, a Zoom 505 series 2 effects unit and a George Lewis volume pedal.

Needless to say, Murray has had a busy and talented musical career over the years, which has given him a lot of enjoyment.
